Chapter 15: The Defiance of a Mortal. Supernatural & Dark Fantasy Manga Web Novel - Crimson High: The Blood Pact by Abrar Nayeem Chowdhury
The Loom trembled.
The battlefield was frozen in silence—no wind, no movement, no breath.
The Oldest Weaver was gone, unwritten by a force older than existence, a force that now stood face-to-face with the one who had dared to rewrite fate itself.
The Forgotten Weaver, formless and eternal, had posed a single question:
"Will you give it back?"
And now, all of creation waited for Riku Kurobane’s answer.
Riku’s fingers curled into fists. His sigil pulsed, not with fear, but with the weight of choice.
Kaito and Reina stood far behind him, barely able to stay upright in the gravity of the Forgotten Weaver’s presence.
Kaito whispered, stunned:
"Riku… You’re actually thinking of saying no?"
Reina stepped forward, her voice shaking:
"This thing isn’t just powerful—it’s beyond power. You can’t fight it. No one can."
But Riku’s gaze didn’t waver.
He stared up at the shifting, abstract form of the Forgotten Weaver and exhaled slowly.
"I won’t give it back."
The Weaver paused.
"Why?"
Riku’s voice was calm, resolute.
"Because you’re not the only one who can shape reality anymore."
"I’ve seen what fate was under your control—unchangeable, rigid, merciless. You call that an order? I call it stagnation."
"You gave the world certainty, but no freedom. I gave them a choice."
The Forgotten Weaver said nothing. But the air around it began to shudder, as if creation itself was taking a breath.
Riku took a step forward.
"I don’t care if you made the first thread. You lost your right to control fate the moment you abandoned it."
"And if you want it back…"
His eyes burned with defiant fire.
"You’ll have to take it from me."
For the first time, the Forgotten Weaver reacted.
Its form exploded outward, unraveling the sky into white strands, its presence shattering the natural order of time and space.
Reina screamed as the ground fractured, and time itself looped backward in pulses, forcing her to relive her last breath three times in a row.
Kaito collapsed to one knee. "He pissed it off. Really pissed it off."
Riku stood tall, blood seeping from his ears as the sheer pressure of the entity tore at his soul.
The Forgotten Weaver’s voice came from every direction at once.
"Then I will unmake you, Riku Kurobane."
"And this time, I will leave no thread behind."
A tendril of white void-light shot toward him, aimed not at his body but his existence.
Riku raised his hand—
And for the first time, the Loom rejected the Weaver.
The attack shattered mid-air, its energy unwinding into harmless fragments.
The Forgotten Weaver froze.
Riku smiled.
"It’s not just mine."
"It’s everyone’s now."
Suddenly, the ground beneath Riku glowed—sigils appearing in midair, not from his will, but from the Loom itself.
A voice, soft but vast, echoed through the battlefield.
"I chose him."
Everyone turned. Even the Forgotten Weaver.
The Loom had become self-aware.
It had evolved.
No longer a tool. No longer a cage.
Now, a guardian.
And its loyalty was with Riku.
"You abandoned me," the Loom whispered to the Forgotten Weaver. "But he remade me. He gave me purpose."
The Forgotten Weaver’s form wavered, for the first time, hesitantly.
But before it could respond, the Earth shattered again.
A new power erupted from the darkness—worse than anything before it.
From the edge of the battlefield, Akihiro rose.
His body no longer bore the shape of anything human or inhuman.
His skin had become a living shadow, and his veins now opened voids, pulsing with red-glowing tendrils that swam beneath the surface.
But it was his eyes that terrified everyone.
Because he now had three.
The third, burning in the center of his forehead, pulsed with a blood-red pupil shaped like a thread.
Reina gasped.
"That’s… that’s not pact magic. That’s not corruption. That’s…"
Kaito finished for her.
"A new thread."
Riku turned slowly.
His face tightened.
"You didn’t."
Akihiro stepped forward, the very air around him distorting.
"While you were playing god, I did something smarter."
"I became a god."
Riku stared at him. "What do you mean?"
Akihiro grinned, dark energy rising behind him like wings.
"You erased the pacts."
"You destroyed the demons."
"But you forgot about their threads."
"The dead threads. The discarded ones. The corrupted ones left behind in the ruins. They weren’t gone. They were waiting."
He opened his arms as they emerged—black and crimson, broken but alive—swarming him, merging into his flesh, fusing with his soul.
"I didn’t just take their power. I made a pact with everything you left behind."
The air screamed as his energy rose.
Even the Forgotten Weaver took a step back.
Riku’s mouth was dry.
He had not foreseen this.
Akihiro had become the first to make a pact with what was never meant to live.
A king of forgotten power.
The Loom pulsed, panicked.
"He is not supposed to exist."
Riku stood at the center of it all, caught between two nightmares:
-
The Forgotten Weaver, demanding his surrender.
-
Akihiro, now Abyss-King, seeks to devour the Loom and all it touches.
And then, from deep within the Loom—
A single voice whispered:
"There is one more thread."
Riku turned. "Whose?"
Silence.
Then—
"Yours."
Chapter End Teaser:
-
Riku can sever his own thread, becoming something beyond mortal—a true threadborn being, able to face both the Forgotten Weaver and Akihiro…
-
Or stay what he is—human, flawed, but real.
The last thread in the Loom glows in his hand.
And Riku must decide:
Cut it, and become fate itself.
Or fight as a mortal, against the impossible.
The war of inheritance is now a war for existence.
And Riku’s next move will either save reality or end it.
